30 Practical Ways to Say "You Are Loved"
We are here for reasons beyond ourselves; we are here for one another, together. It is important to know we are all here together and to share that message through the words “you are loved.” Telling someone how much they mean to you by expressing to them “you are loved” is a beautiful matter that goes beyond the heart; it goes into the purpose of life to help one another, guide one another, and be here for one another.
If you are looking for additional ways to say “you are loved” to the world around you, including your family, your friends, your loved ones, your community, and the entire universe, check out these 30 practical tips and begin your journey to expressing “you are loved.”
1. Buy someone a cup of coffee
Just like love, coffee makes the world go ‘round. If you know someone who is a big coffee fan, buy them a cup to make their day. Even if you are waiting in line for your own joe, pay for the cup of the person in front of or behind you and if you are in the drive thru, you can pay for the order of the next person in line. This act of kindness can go a long way; make it your mission to empower kindness and simply ask for the good deed to be paid forward.
2. Send your grandparents a hand-written letter
Your grandparents (and relatives and loved ones) love hearing from their family and there is something special about hand-written letters that takes us all back to the good ‘ol days. Make their week by sending them your very own hand-written letter. You will bring the brightest smile to their faces and the greatest warmth to their hearts.
3. Give out free hugs
Feeling deeply empowered? Nothing makes people’s days like hugs. Have you ever stumbled upon people holding signs that read “Free Hugs” at the mall or your local shopping center? This is a sure-fire way to show everyone, no matter who they are, that they are loved and that they matter.
4. Start a (safe) conversation with a stranger
Have you ever seen someone who looks like they just need to talk, who looks like they might be going through something really difficult and just need a shoulder to cry and lean on? If you feel safe and comfortable, the next time you see someone feeling this way, politely ask them how they are and if they are okay. Who knows, you might just be their hero of the day.
5. Send a card to a long-lost friend
As we get older, it’s common to lose touch with friends we once spent a great deal of time with. We all have our own paths and sometimes our paths head in a little different directions. Take some time to send a “thinking of you” card to a long-lost friend and rekindle your relationship!
You will make their day.
6. Buy flowers for someone special
Flowers make anyone and everyone smile. Do you have someone special in mind you would like to send them to? Perhaps surprise them by sending flowers to their work or, if you are able, surprise them by delivering them in person when they won’t expect it, like during their lunch break or when they are getting home from work after a long day.
7. Make someone dinner
Not much says “you are loved” like food, especially if you have a self-noted “foodie” in your midst. By making someone dinner, you can really show them how much they mean to you.
Surprise a loved one with their favorite meal or make a meal for someone who might be going through a difficult time, such as coping with the loss of a loved one or experiencing a rough patch.
8. Help with a loved one’s errands
Sometimes, we all need a little help, even with the day-ins and day-outs of life. Offer your helping hands to a friend, family member, or loved one who you think might benefit from some help. You can help them with grocery shopping, sitting down to pay bills, or even cleaning around the house. With some music and laughter, you can turn it into a party!
One of the best things we can do to say “you are loved” is to just be there for someone in need, lending our ears to allow our friend, family member, and/or loved one the chance to get off their chest what they need to. Show someone how much they mean to you by actively listening to them and let them know you are here for them anytime they need to talk.
10. Give advice to someone who needs it
Just like listening is important, sometimes those in our lives want to hear what we have to say. If you know any of your friends, family, and loved ones who might be needing support, ask if they would like some advice and be kind in delivering your love to them.
11. Post a positive social media message
In the age of social media, you can lend your voice to sharing positive messages to your online communities. Share your favorite inspirational quotes and spread your life message of love to those in your social circles.
12. Paint for someone who needs to smile
Feeling creative and artsy? Use your talents to paint a beautiful message of love for someone special in your life. You could paint a canvas with a motivational quote and give it to a friend or donate it to a local Goodwill for the community to enjoy.
Smile. Just smile.
14. Deliver flowers to a local hospital
Take flowers to a hospital in your area and give them to some of the patients or even the nursing staff to take them for all they do. This is a profound way to show the community how much you care.
15. Volunteer your time and services at your favorite organization
Do you have a favorite organization that you would like to assist with? Reach out and ask for any volunteer opportunities that are available and lend your kindness to making a bright difference through the organization’s work.
16. Play with kittens and puppies (and volunteer)
If you love pets, one of the funnest ways to volunteer is to give your time to helping out at a local animal shelter or humane society. Not only will you be helping the animals and the humans of the shelter, you will be providing yourself a great stress release and mental rejuvenation as well!
17. Deliver care packages to homeless in your area
You can create care packages full of non-perishable food, notes of kindness, self-care items like lotion, tissues and towelettes, and items of warmth like blankets and give them to those in need.
18. Serve a meal at a local food kitchen
You can donate your time and kindness by serving a meal at a local church and/or food kitchen. Not only could you be dishing out nutritious food for those in need, you will be serving love as well.
19. Write a poem
Writing a poem full of positivity is a great way to say “you are loved.” Write this poem for a special someone and let them know how much they mean to you.
20. Surprise a loved one with a party
Host a surprise party for someone for a special occasion (or simply to celebrate the joys of life and the company of great friends and loved ones)!
21. Send a get well soon card
Do you know someone who is feeling under the weather, physically or mentally? Send a get well soon card to them with a personalized note to show how much you care and how much they mean to you.
22. Say thank you
Simply say thank you. A little bit of gratitude goes a long way.
23. Say please
Simply just say "please".
24. Ask for forgiveness
Sometimes, things that weigh us down are past experiences that we need to correct. By asking for forgiveness, you will be able to show how much you love those you have for those you might have hurt. Also, this will show love to yourself as you will be able to commit to self-love and personal growth.
25. Lend someone your favorite book
Do you have a favorite book that changed your life and inspired you in empowering and positive ways? Share this book with someone who you feel might be able to strongly benefit from the profound words.
26. Host a fundraiser
If you and your friends or family are very passionate about a particular cause or organization, host a fundraiser to raise support for it. In doing so, you will be spreading love in ways greater than what can be imagined.
27. Share the message of your favorite cause
You can use your voice in personal and on social media to share the message of your favorite cause. Are there important social issues that are impactful to you? Lend your support by standing up and speaking out for what matters.
28. Join a charity walk
Is your favorite charity hosting a walk or an event that you can support and take part in? Join the movement by taking your actions to the next level and being a voice your charity needs you to be.
29. Commit to self-care
Take care of yourself, both mentally and physically. This is one of the best ways to tell yourself “you are loved.” In the process, your self-care will inspire those around you to commit to self-care as well and, as a result, you will be telling them “you are loved, too.”
30. Wear an inspiring t-shirt
You can show people “you are loved” by what you wear. Wear clothing with inspiring and empowering messages (like the ones available here) and you will encourage the world for greatness.
